Many of us live busy lives where we are constantly on the go. Our nervous systems support us in this by always being “on alert” – ready to jump in at a moment’s notice. Although this may feel very normal (as it’s what we’ve become accustomed to), the reality is that physiologically we are experiencing constant low levels of stress which make it difficult to “switch off” and properly relax.
Add on to this the obvious list of life stressors (traffic jams when you are late, work deadlines, bigger life events, etc) and you start to understand the full scope of what our bodies and minds both have to absorb, process and cope with.
The good news is: we can reduce stress in our life by learning to manage it better and prevent it from accumulating. When we practice deep relaxation and tapping into our parasympathetic nervous system (through mindfulness and breath work), we nourish our bodies to help with balance, better sleep and a deeper sense of self-care.

Meditation is an amazing tool for coping with stress and reducing anxiety. I have found that it also helps me be more present with my family and to feel more in control when my mind is busy. I sometimes meditate in isolation or add it on to the end of a yoga session, run or workout.

A regular meditation practice can really be life-changing – introducing one into your life could be the best thing you have ever done.
See you on the mat!
