Going on holiday is something that you look forward to for weeks or maybe months before you go. It can be a great motivator for getting as fit as possible for the pool side and the adventures that the holiday might include! I am often asked “shall I train whilst I am away?” and to which I always reply “what would make you feel better?” If you have been training really hard and are craving a break then I think it is fine not to train: a week or two fully relaxing can be good for the body and mind.
Other clients feel better when they train and might even have more time and energy when away to actually move more! It is key to tune in to what you really need and what is going to make you feel your best!
What might my holiday fitness routine look like?
A good half way house is to reduce the intensity of your exercise program whilst you are away but do enough to feel the mental and physical benefits of working out. Get the balance right and you can relax most of the time whilst still keeping the body activated and feeling strong! You can taper down training intensity by doing shorter sessions (no longer than 30 minutes) or steady state cardio sessions at a lower intensity (where you can easily talk and admire the views).
Below I have recorded for you a 20 minute bodyweight workout designed to keep all your muscles fired up whilst you are away. I like to train first thing in the morning or mid morning when I’m on holiday so that I can relax from lunch time onwards knowing that I have done my exercise! Think one or two short 20 minute sessions, a slow 30 minute jog along the sea front and lots of epic walking! Whatever combination you choose, the body will thank you for some movement and the great news is that it makes the food taste even better!
Holiday workout for you ❤️
Here is your 20 minute holiday workout that you can do with NO EQUIPMENT! This means that you can do it in your hotel room, down by the pool or just take your ipad down to the hotel gym 🙂 Please modify as you need to and stop if an exercise is causing you any pain. There will be uncomfortable moments but it shouldn’t be painful at all!
Think about how you will feel on the way home: what will you be proud of doing? How do you want to feel when you get home? Enjoy the movement that you do and have gratitude for your amazing body! Mindset is everything, both home and away 🙂
Wishing you an wonderful holiday full of memories that you will treasure forever,
See you soon!
