In my experience, back work can have a transformative effect on your whole body shape. Strengthening our upper and lower backs means that we are likely to stand more upright coming across as more self assured and confident. When we stand tall, our pelvis is less likely to make any compensations and our core muscles can do a better job of supporting us, both when we workout and in everyday life!
I have worked with so many women and men that feel much more t-shirt confident with more toned arms and back: it really is a game-changer! Your back muscles are also the second biggest muscle group in the human body which means we can achieve a good calorie burn working them and when they are recovering too (bring on the after-burn!)
What equipment do I need?
For this workout you will benefit from having a mat and enough space to lie on your front and reach your arms over the top of your head. You will need two equal weights – dumbbells, kettlebells, tins of beans: you can make the most of whatever you have. If you haven’t done much back work before then I recommend that you start light and focus on your posture before increasing the weight 🙂
Will working out like this regularly help me lose weight?
Staying active and working out regularly makes it easy to achieve and maintain a healthy weight. Weight loss requires quite a large calorie deficit though of about 500kcal a day so unless you are working out for six hours per week, you also need to adjust your eating habits to achieve weight loss. My clients have commented that it is much easier to eat well when you are training because you feel more focused on healthy living.
Stronger muscles also mean that you will feel better in your body every day! People who train regularly tend to also move better, have increased energy and feel happier in general. Working out does wonders for stress levels and self confidence!

Here is your PURE back workout. The great thing about online training is that you can pause the workout at any point if you need to! Take a little rest and then just press play and get back to work as soon as you can. Remember to take it steady. Nothing should ever be painful! It may be hard or uncomfortable but if you feel pain then stop immediately and do an alternative exercise that doesn’t hurt. Be prepared to work hard and enjoy the BURN
